The most amazing thing about the Castello di Velona was the incredible view. The hotel is set in an ancient stone castle perched on a rocky outcrop with a full 360 degree view of the softly undulating Tuscan countryside. The area is known as the Val d’Orcia (the valley of the Orcia river) and is a World Heritage site – protected because it represents an almost unspoilt view of the Tuscan landscape as it would have been in Renaissance times.
It was a comfortable view – though different every morning and evening. Somehow its very timelessness was soothing to the soul.

Oh Paola that view is STUNNING, how on earth did you drag yourself away?
So nice that you liked my necklace, the fabric bits are always slightly different depending on what I have available and that particular beaded bit was from vintage beads from my aunt, but other necklaces usually have smaller beads, often 3 strings of them. When I start making again I’ll know who to contact about selling them!
Have a great week

What a dump – you must have been SO disappointed 😀
I remember pitching up at a farmhouse near Orvieto about 15 years ago, and looking around in wonder at the unbroken 360-degree view – the hills were more wooded than these Tuscan ones, but with a similar feel of timeless, unsullied perfection. I remember thinking that I would always be happy if I could wake up to that view every day. (Naturally I would have found something to whine about in under a week, but I still remember the emotion).
