More Lipstick on a Pig

In these troubled economic times (I’m starting to suspect that mirrormirror is not going to have a particularly good Christmas), I thought readers in the UK at least would appreciate this exemplar of learned political discourse from here in the US, as Americans go about the process of electing the leader of the free world.

To be fair, this comes from Fox News, which is not exactly noted for its unbiased opinions. For more sensible analysis and opinions (and proof that not all Americans are certifiably insane), this site is aces www.fivethirtyeight.com.

It’s so depressing. And terrifying at the same time. Pores, wrinkles and facial hair? How about financial meltdown, pointless wars, health costs.

I’m a huge fan of FiveThirtyEight – they tell it like it is. I feel most news outlets are still treading carefully around certain issues. As always, I’m sure these reporters and anchor people are in a bind – who is paying their salaries – GE, Time Warner.

Wow – I just finished reading this Newsweek last night and I had NO IDEA what the lead anchor was alluding to in terms of a “problem” until they said it. Give me a break! Maybe they should be more concerned with what Sarah Palin says than how she looks – if she says “Joe Six-Pack” one more freakin’ time, I’m going to lose it. Come on people – she could be the leader of the free world!
love from Texas (see, we’re not all Republicans!)

The irony is that if it had been retouched, someone, somewhere would have had a breakdown over the fact that Newsweek was following in the footsteps of fashion mags and this is politics, not fashion, blah blah blah. She is a pretty woman. With an empty head. But she is 40-something, not 14, and if she were a man no one would have expected her photo to be retouched. And when those three dingbats start to get wrinkly, they will lose their news jobs while their “distinguished” male counterparts continue to get air time. Greta Sustern didn’t get a makeover because it would make her smarter on the news, she did it to keep her job.
